American MD (USMD) program is designed to train internationally competitive and competent, highly qualified physicians (Doctors) who are ready for postgraduate education and the specific training courses, both in Georgia and abroad (particularly in the U.S.). The medical doctors are prepared according to the requirements and standards of the country medical/public health care system.
Therefore, the program must:
• Provide a modern, internationally recognized standards, scientific knowledge and technological advancement of medical education;
• Develop life-long learning skills and self-motivation in forthcoming doctors;
• Ensure that medical personnel preparation and training are conducted via using new informational technologies;
• Ensure that the medical education meets the requirements and standards of the national healthcare system.
The program provides students with the wide range of opportunities. Custom curriculum allows students pass 2 steps of the United States Licensure Examination (USMLE) before graduation. In addition, students are able to gain research and practical experience in the U.S. during certain stages of their education. The program is proud of basic medical, preclinical and clinical disciplines that are fully integrated. In addition, the beginning of the program is focused on expanding students’ horizons of general education. For this purpose, for the first time, in the area of medical education, the module Mankind’s Creativity is taught to the first year students. The module Mankind’s Creativity combines three courses - History of Civilizations, Fine Art History and World Literature. All these disciplines are integrated into the so-called "Time axis" in mind. Besides, courses such as Cultural Anthropology, Basics of Management, Personal Financing, Basics of Psychology, Foreign Languages (German, Spanish) enrich students’ academic background. Preclinical subjects, such as chemistry, biology and physics are taught in depth with thematic integration.
With the onset of the program starts a new discipline, "Become a doctor," which provides general development of clinical and critical clinical thinking skills using visits in outpatient clinics and hospitals.
In addition, the training process uses the evidence-based medical practices, high-tech laboratories, simulators, the demonstration of the cases with the active participation of the patient and the doctors’ multidisciplinary team.

The program has two main stages: Preclinical and clinical.
Preclinical stage (Duration 2 years). The main goal is to give students a fundamental education in the sciences, such as biology, physics, chemistry, give the awareness of the humanities, such as anthropology, fine art history, history of civilizations, world literature, psychology, etc.

STEP 2: Collect Acceptance Letter
1. Wait for the acceptance letter from TSMU, which takes approximately 5 business days to process.
2. Upon receiving the acceptance letter and one copy of your documents from TSMU, submit them to the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement.
3. Collect your recognition letter from the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement and submit it to TSMU.
STEP 3: Receive Enrollment Email
1. Wait for the official enrollment email from TSMU.
2. Plan your visa procedures and register and become a student.

All students have their personal page on the portal http://sms.tsmu.edu Students get their usernames and passwords from the program administration. Vis logging in their personal account students have access to all the contents that are vital for the study process. On this website they can also find information about their student status.
Georgian citizen applicants are required to pass the National Exams and must have high score (more than 85%) in English Language. Non Georgian Citizens with corresponding documentation, should apply to the EQE. After approval from the Ministry, they have right to start the undergraduate course.

Medical Insurance Requirement for Overseas Students – Mandatory for Admission
All overseas students are required to obtain medical insurance—either local or international—before the commencement of each academic year. Insurance packages generally range from $7 to $25 USD per month. Students may initially obtain travel insurance and, upon arrival in Tbilisi, switch to health insurance from local providers.
Annual Tuition Fee: 8,000 GEL for Georgian citizens;
13,500 USD for Non-Georgian citizens.
Tuition Fee Payment Policy
1st-Year Students: The full tuition fee must be paid by the end of the registration period.
2nd to 6th-Year Students: Tuition fees may be divided into two instalments. Both instalments must be paid by the end of the registration period.
Please make sure to keep your payment receipt to avoid any misunderstandings.
We do not provide on-campus accommodation facilities. Therefore, we strongly recommend you to find an apartment for rent in the nearby areas (which are mostly residential).

Students can make a clerkship at Emory University in case of passing USMD STEP 1 successfully. Only for USMD students, clerkships are free from charge. Though, bear in mind that the program doesn’t cover other expanses.
The USMD program is designed to effectively prepare students for the USMLE Step exams; however, taking and passing these exams ultimately depends on each student’s individual goals and determination, as they are not mandatory.
The USMD program curriculum equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully complete all procedures required for pursuing residency in the United States. As part of the program, students also receive guidance on preparing the required documentation for residency program applications.
